BREAKING BARRIERS: VIJAY VARMA’S QUEST FOR CHALLENGING ROLE

Reflecting on his journey, he remarked, “I constantly feel like whatever I have achieved in my roles is because somebody saw something in me. It’s not me creating this character. Somebody said, ‘You can play this person also; you can play that person.’ So, I want to be challenged that way.”

Despite his success, Vijay remains hungry for new experiences, expressing a desire to explore uncharted territory in genres he has yet to tackle. “I am desperately wanting to do a comedy,” he revealed, “and I want to do a zombie film, one of my favourite genres.”

The past few years have been monumental for Vijay, with several critically acclaimed releases on OTT platforms. He described 2022 as a turning point, calling it a “hat-trick year.” From intense dramas to suspenseful thrillers, Vijay has demonstrated his range in roles that have left audiences and critics equally impressed. 

Speaking about his post-pandemic success, he said, “I think my last theatrical release was before the pandemic, and I’ve had around 15 releases since 2020. They’ve mostly been streaming, on platforms like Netflix and Amazon. There have been movies, and there have been series. Fortunately, I’ve been part of some of the good films that came out, a good series that came out, including directors who made very big films.” 

 

REDEFINING BOLLYWOOD

Vijay is also part of a new wave of Indian storytelling that breaks away from traditional Bollywood formulas. He highlighted this evolution while discussing his role in IC814, one of Netflix’s most ambitious productions to date. 

“IC814, me and Arvind Sir were part of it. It’s one of the biggest shows that Netflix has made. It’s talking about a story, which is a historical event,” he explained. Vijay went on to elaborate on how such projects reflect a shift in the industry. “What it is giving me is basically a new version of Bollywood which doesn’t subscribe to the idea of four songs, seven fight scenes, and a conventional start-middle-end structure. This is a new parallel; that’s what I figured.” 

UPCOMING PROJECTS 

With a string of memorable performances in projects like Darlings, Dahaad, Jaane Jaan, and IC814, Vijay’s star continues to rise. His upcoming slate promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Among his most anticipated works are the film Ul Jalool Ishq and the much-talked-about series Matka King, directed by Nagraj Manjule, a visionary filmmaker known for his unique storytelling.
