National award-winning actress Kriti Sanon has carved a niche for herself in Indian cinema, and her trajectory is nothing short of inspiring. Having won the National Award for her poignant portrayal of a surrogate mother in Mimi, Kriti has continually pushed the envelope. With Do Patti, her latest Netflix venture, she not only takes on dual roles as twin sisters but also debuts as a producer under her banner, Blue Butterfly Films. She talks about her journey in a PC during the trailer launch of , Do Patti.
On stepping into production
Transitioning from actor to producer brought new challenges and lessons for Kriti. Reflecting on the process, she shared, “Between the shots, when I had to change my attire for the next scene, I would ask the director to keep rolling. I’d quickly change and be back on set, bang on. Every minute means money, and now I realise the value of every second spent on a shoot.”
This newfound perspective has deepened Kriti’s respect for the intricate workings of filmmaking. She’s embraced the creative process wholeheartedly, from reviewing drafts to understanding the nitty-gritty of scriptwriting.
“Produce karna asan nahi [Producing a film is not easy]. It’s a tough job, but it’s also been a huge learning curve. Some stories, like Do Patti, touch your heart deeply. It’s an intriguing tale, full of drama and twists, with grey characters that leave an impact. I was passionate about this project and wanted to bring it to life as both an actor and a producer.”

A reunion with Kajol
The film also marks Kriti’s reunion with Kajol after their collaboration in Dilwale eight years ago. Talking about working alongside the powerhouse performer again, Kriti expressed her admiration, “When Kanika [Dhillon] told me Kajol ma’am was joining the project, I was thrilled. I was so new during Dilwale, just learning the ropes. Watching her then was magical, and now, sharing more meaningful scenes with her has been a dream. Her eyes are incredible; she can light up the screen with just a look. She’s also generous as a co-actor—she’d suggest ways to improve a scene, and when she complimented me, saying ‘Nicely done,’ it meant the world to me.”
Kriti also noted how Kajol’s craft has evolved over the years, sharing, “I think she looks even better in Do Patti than in Dilwale. Her energy on screen is unparalleled, and she brings something extraordinary to every frame.”
